Olmo Competition Leader 50th Anniversary Bike 1980s
- Manufacturer: Olmo
- Size: 58 cm
In 1939, four years after setting the World Hour Record, Giuseppe Olmo, nicknamed "Gepin", retired from a successful cycling career. Straight afterwards he set up a bicycle manufacture in Celle Ligure together with his brothers Franco, Giovanni and Michele. The traditional company is still in production today. During the years many excellent bikes have left Celle Ligure to win races all over the world.
One of their 1980s top models was the neat Olmo Competition Leader. Belonging to the earlier aero experiments of the bicycle industry, this Olmo has been built with Columbus Air tubing – aerodynamic stays of the second generation – and a complete internal cable routing. Additionally, the down tube shifters were moved in closer together to save that extra watt or two.
The whole construction radiates elegance and classic craftsmanship.
Then, there are the parts. For many vintage bike friends, the Campagnolo 50th anniversary became somewhat of the 'grail-groupset'.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company, Campagnolo released a first batch of 5.000 pieces of this extraordinary groupset.
The groupset number one went straight to Campagnolo's own museum. The number two was presented to the pope, John Paul II. In the meantime, Campagnolo began to produce more of these extremely sought-after anniversary groupsets to meet the expectations of the market. They stopped when the number of 15.000 groupsets was achieved.
And here is one of them, with serial number 1178it perfectly completes our superb racing machine.
Fully checked and serviced, the bike is ready to be ridden.
A unique vintage bicycle. Suitable for collections, leasure rides or Eroica events.»See Details
