Jack Taylor Tourist Classic Randonneur Bike 1980s
- Manufacturer: Jack Taylor
- Size: 60 cm
Jack Taylor has been established as a company by the three Taylor brothers Jack, Ken and Norman in 1945. They became experts in customized bike building from special tricycles to top notch racing machines. They gained a reputation for building perfectly reliable and beautiful bicycles and were so successful that the last bikes of the brand were produced as late as the early 1990s.
One of their models was the Jack Taylor Tourist a Touring bike which was inspired in many ways by classic French Randonneur bikes.
The frame consists of Reynolds 531 butted tubing and Nervex Professional lugs, thus forming a strong, unpretentious bike which was well handling and relatively lightweight.
According to the serial number this frame should be from around 1984 and was built by Norman who held the torch in the Taylor family's workshop, a real master of his art. The paintjob had been carried out by Jack in a manner which completes Norman's frame perfectly.
The parts are only high class componentry with some rather special items like the compact crankset and the rare Sachs Huret DuoPar rear derailleur wich made extensive use of titanium and featured two parallelograms to manage a 36t rear cog if need be. And of course there is the great looking original pump.
The whole bike is still in great condition and could be used as a classic touring bicycle for many years to come.
But it would also make an excellent L'Eroica bike. The rear derailleur can cope with large sprockets and the frame leaves enough clearance for wide tires. On top it is a machine from a world renowned manufacture which has a strong fan base and and there is a heap of cool stories to the brand's history. A bit of which can become yours, by purchasing this magnificent Jack Taylor Tourist. »See Details
