Gitane – a name which means 'Gypsy Lady' in French – is a brand which was synonymous with French bicycle racing from the 1960s through the mid-1980s, sponsoring riders such as Jacques Anquetil, Lucien Van Impe, Bernard Hinault (1975–1983), Laurent Fignon, and Greg LeMond
This particular Gitane 'Racing Team' sports the company's signature colour scheme. Another highlight are the honeycomb dropouts which were a speciality of Gitane at the Time. The bike is fitted with period correct french parts consisting of Simplex Gearing and Mafac Racer center pull brakes. The original paintjob and decals, yellow cotton tape as well as the original pump give this bike the distinctive vibe of a classic 70s road bike. As was common for french racing bikes of that era, the fork and dropouts have eyelets for mudguards so the bike can easily be transformed into a more touring oriented build with the addition of some mudguards.
Completely checked in our workshop, this vintage bike is ready not only for the urban jungle but could also be used in Eroica events.
