Description

Cycles Follis has its origins in 1930s Lyon.
Giuseppe 'Joseph' Follis had been emigrating to France from the Piedmont region, taking his family with him. There he made his way up to the head of production at a company which owned the bicyle brand Fortis. When this company shut down in the 1930s he started his own small manufacture.
In the 1940s, the production started to flourish, patents for innovative derailleurs, brakes and levers were filed. Even a split seat tube frame which anticipated the design of some 1980s short bikes was introduced.

Francois Follis, Joseph's son took over the conduct of Follis and was able to pump up the production significantly. They also started to sponsor a cycling team. Some of their early riders like Sablière should become famous constructeurs themselves.
When in 1946, Follis riders took the first place of the road racing category in the famed Poly de Chanteloup and first and second place in the randonneurs category, they had beaten the creme de la creme of French bicycle constructeurs, the like of Alex Singer and René Herse.

Their success should even grow in the following years and reached its peak in the 1950s, when Follis riders won the Tour d'Europe, the Tour of Flanders, The Tour de Romandie, Paris Roubaix and stages in the Tour de France.

One of the bikes from their successful 1950s years is our Follis 650b randonneur.
The bike was developed with touring in mind and is set up with Mafac brakes and Simplex shifting.
Stable and with a long wheelbase, travelling at high speed would be the natural movement for this nice historic piece.
Our Follis is a bike for friends of French cycling heritage and the golden age of randonneurs.

Condition

Used.   The bike is in working condition. The frame has no cracks, no dents and is straight. Paintwork and decals are original. Paint as well as chrome and components are timeworn but checked and generally working and rideable. Original rims are buckeled.

SVB quality and attention to detail is second to none! Fantastic customer service, very accommodating and helpful. An error was made in delivery and the SVB team efficiently sorted the problem the same day. I was gifted the original item and sent a brand new item, dispatched the same day. Lovely products and very helpful staff. 5*

Just bought a second vintage classic bike from Steel Vintage. A great bike at an excellent price and they couldn't have been more helpful. Their fantastic service was every bit as good as before.
Placed the on-line order late on Saturday evening and the bike was delivered to me here in the UK the following Thursday morning.

Geeky Eroica Cool. I bought the "old-school" Italian made bike shoes. They were delivered in good condition and in a quick timely fashion. They're geeky cool, just like I hoped and they're put together very well (stitched nicely, no glues where it shouldn't be) light and fit properly!

Steel Vintage Bikes are such an excellent company to deal with. They are passionate about vintage steel bikes. They have in my opinion very fair prices and very obliging to deal with. Packaging is great and no hassle even for delivery way down here in New Zealand.

The overall service provided by Steel Vintage Bikes is always first rate. Delivery and packaging is always timely and well done. I cannot fault Steel Vintage and have been a customer for a number of years.. Plan to get to Berlin hopefully in the near future, stop in for a some Kaffee und Kirchen and a bike geek mooch around the shop.
