During the 1980s the creativity in bicycle design exploded. From components to frames, the developments were manyfold. One of them was the beam suspended frame.
In 1989 the US company Softride presented their composite beam suspension and it should become the most successful of these approaches. Though it originally was intended for the use with mountain bike frames, it soon gained popularity in the world of time trial bikes and thriathlon machines. In the 1996 Ironman championships for example, more than 120 bikes with a softride system were brought to race!
Several bicycle companies tried to utilise the softride beam and integrate it into their own frame designs. One of these companies was the Denti manufacture from Italy. The brand had originally been founded by Mino Denti, who was a cyclist in the late 1960s with Salvarani, Faema and Scic teams, before he grabbed the torch and started building frames.
Obviously the company which had been specialised in steel frames, was searching for modern solutions of frame design to gain new momentum in the challenging market of the 1990s.
Their attempt at integrating the Softride Suspension seems to be a sound solution. And the outcome, the Denti Spider is an excellent time trial bike.
For one reason or another it never seemed to have gone into full production nor has it been marketed as far as we know.
So what you can get here is a really rare piece, a Denti Spider prototype frame with a Shimano Dura Ace setup.
The frame itself is made from Denti-specific Columbus Nivacrome steel which has been TIG welded. It includes interesting details like the rear brake fixture or the special attachment of the rear dropouts.
A really special piece for collectors or friends of 1990s beam suspension designs.
Used. The frame is basically NOS in very good condition. It has no cracks, no dents and is not bent. Paintwork and decals are original with few small scratches due to storage. The parts have been checked and are all working fine.
