The Colnago Master is undoubtedly an evergreen of road bicycle history. First released in 1983, five different versions of the Colnago Master were manufactured until 1998 ( the Master 1983, Master Più 1987, Master Olympic 1991, Master Light 1994 and Master X-Light 1998).
The Master series represents undoubtedly a peak in steel frame manufacturing, but on the other hand, also marked the end of the steel era in the bicycle industry. Yet it remained so popular that Colnago is still producing quite a number of classic steel Master framesets every year.
Released in 1987, the Colnago Master Più shares with its predecessor the famous Columbus Gilco profiled tubing – specifically designed by Gilberto Colombo to improve stiffness and withstand mechanical strain – but differs for other details, such as the internally routed brake cable and the three-pointed lugs. It also was the first model to be equipped with Colnago's straight Precisa fork
When our Master Più frameset arrived at Steel Vintage Bikes, we carefully cleaned it and decided to leave it with its original airbrush decor paintjob.
When it came to the parts we decided for real progress and equipped the frame with completely new parts. To preserve a bit of a classic look, we chose a silver Campagnolo Veloce groupset. The impression is classic but the performance is as modern as it gets.
A compact chainset together with a 29t cassette in the back provides ample shifting range to climb steep mountain passes and to sprint at top speed.
The riding quality is dream-like a supple steel feeling with great handling paired with the comfort and performance of a modern Campagnolo groupset.
