Cicli Wilier Super Sport Road Bike 1940s
- Manufacturer: Wilier
- Size: 57 cm
One of the oldest and most prestigious Italian bicycle brands still existing, Wilier Triestina, was founded in 1906 in Bassano del Grappa, northern Italy.
Its name is a patriotic statement, referring to the claim
W l’Italia LIbera E Redenta. (Meaning: Long live Italy, free and redeemed).
When it comes to classic bicycles, there are actually which were able to produce an iconic bike like the Wilier did with their copper coloured Ramata models
. Over the years the former called 'tipo la triestina' became the epitome of Wilier bikes, but this success also left the other excellent bikes which Wilier produced behind in the shadows. And exceptional bikes they were, just like our Wilier Triestina Super Sport Road Bike from the 1940s!
The lugged frame is held in a soft bronze shade with a nice patina covering the paint and the original decals.
Closer looks reveal that this Wilier is really great sportsbike. The frame offers an internal cable routing, which not only includes the rear braking cable but also the shifting cable. Other fine technical solutions include aluminium hubs, a face-plate stem (sic!) and an early version of Simplex' Tour de France shifting!
Most of the parts are actually Wilier's own, from the hubs to the saddle, it is nice to have such a complete ensemble.
This rare Wilier road bike is certainly a great piece for a cycling collection. Classy and the high tech of its day. »See Details
- Condition: Used. The bike is in good working condition. The frame has no cracks, no dents and is not bent. Paintwork and decals are original. With Patina and scruffs. All parts have been checked and are working. Spring of the derailleur tends to fail, works anyway.
