‘Gios blue’ has become as much a part of cycling culture as ‘Bianchi celeste’. Their first foray into the brand we now know and love was in 1948, when Tolmino Gios opened a small bicycle workshop in Turin, Italy. Tolmino had been a professional cyclist in such events as the Giro d’Italia – winning the Gran Premio Camandona – and sought to translate his racing experience into a series of thoroughbred bicycles. However, the first bicycles he built were often highly functional city bikes, and nothing like what is associated with the classic racing Gios frames now known to enthusiasts.
It wasn’t long after Tolmino began building bicycles in his Turn workshop that his son, Alfredo, worked alongside him. It was Alfredo who matched the distinctive blue of the Brooklyn professional cycling team to the finely built frames they would ride; the colour was to be iconic. The Brooklyn team achieved success at Paris-Roubaix, Tour of Flanders and Milan-Sanremo on Gios frames, and the images of Roger De Vlaeminck on the pavé of France are vivid reminders of the quality frames the Gios family built.
Gios 50th Anniversary - Gios turned 50 in the late 90s, and the 50th Anniversary bicycle was commissioned to celebrate this landmark occasion. Specified with gold plated frame protectors and bolts, it’s riding performance matched the luxurious aesthetic.
Gios Compact - Released in 1986, the Compact is one best frames ever produced by Gios. Unusually for a bike of its era, it featured internally routed cables – illustrating how Gios were innovators in bicycle design.
Gios Professional - The Gios Professional was developed in collaboration with Paris-Roubaix winner Roger De Vlaeminck. The lugs were exceptionally advanced for the period, as were the internally routed cables.
Gios Aerodynamic - One of the rarest Gios bicycles ever manufactured. The Aerodynamic was produced between 1981-1982 in a series of only 200.
Gios 40th Anniversary - These rare frames – which included gold plated details – were made of Mannesmann Oria Ranf tubes. Gios designed it with their famous compact geometry, allowing the rider to adapt to different riding styles.
