L’Eroica 2013 – Vintage bicycle race in Tuscany, Italy

L-Eroica-2013-1L’Eroica is one of the most popular amateur bicycle races on vintage bikes. It takes place in the Chianti surrounding in Tuscany, Italy each year in October.

Steel Vintage Bikes team will participate the L’Eroica race this year! We will present our “heroic” vintage bicycles and our training sessions here, in our Steel Vinateg Bikes blog. The registration for the L’Eroica’s participation lottery started at www.eroica.it on the 21st of January 2013 and goes on until the 3rd of March 2013. 1000 Non-Italians younger than 60 will get a chance to participate the L'Eroica race on Sunday, the 6th of October 2013. About 5000 cyclists will be participating this year. There will be four routes: 205km, 135km, 75km and 38km. Only "heroic" road bicycles built before 1987 and with special "vintage" characteristics are allowed for the race.


Here is the basic information about the L'Eroica 2013:

Race date: Sunday, the 6th of October 2013

Registration time: From the 21st Jan. 2013 to the 3rd Mar. 2013

Availability: 1000 places for Non-Italians under 60 years old (lottery); 1500 places for Italians under 60 years old (lottery); Unlimited places for women regardless of age and men older than 60.

Costs: 35 Euro

Lottery: the results of the lottery will be published on www.eroica.it after the 3rd of March 2013

Bicycles: only vintage bicycles built before 1987 and with special characteristics (see below) may participate.

Classic-Bicycle-For-L-EroicaThe “heroic” bicycle must have the following characteristics:

YEAR: The road bicycle must be built before 1987.

FRAME: The bicycle must have a steel frame and the classic racing geometry – no cyclo-cross or time trial bicycles are allowed. The only exception are the alloy Alan and Vitus bicycles with glued or screwed frames.

SHIFTERS: The shifters must be on the down tube of the frame. The only exception are the bar-end shifters built before 1980.

PEDALS: Only classic pedals with toe clips. No clipless pedals except Cinelli M71 pedals.

CABLES: The brake cables must lie outside of the bar tape

WHEELS: Only wheels with 32 spokes or more and profile lower than 20mm are allowed

Refurbished and new built or rebuilt bicycles with the characteristics listed above are allowed.
